Gilgit Baltistan covers an area of 27188 square miles (7200 square kilometers). The population of GB is approximately 1.5 million. Almighty Allah has blessed the GB region with natural beauty, minerals and infinite other natural resources that can be used for the welfare of mankind in the living world. GB people served their lives for the development of country in all the government sectors. Gilgit Baltistan is rich, beautiful and unique as compared to other areas of Pakistan. The dress plays an important role in identity of person. The traditional Cap of GB has played an important role in personal identification of Gilgiti people across the world. The cap has several names in Major Languages. In Shina and Khowar languages the cap is known as Khoi, in brushaski it is called Phartsun or Pharsen. The design of cap is slightly different in Baltistan region and it is called Nating in Balti.

The shape of the cape is soft round and it is usually made by local artisan. This cap is also known as woolen hat because it is totally composition of wool. This cap is available in various colors. The most popular caps in the region are white caps and considered as a part of formal local dress. The older generation of GB wear their traditional cap all the time with pride. They consider it a sign of honor. Peacock plume is the most striking feature of the cap and the feather gives a very elegant and attractive look to the cap. In many parts of GB the shepherds and farmers stuck a pine tree leave to symbolize life. On the other hand, while dancing it is a custom to stuck money into the cap. The dancer gives the money to the musicians once the dance is finished.The young generation of the GB have pride on their white cap and they all are agree that white cape is their identity.
