Humans are the only unique creatures of Almighty Allah, who are responsible and have ability to spread love, sharing of emotions and feelings. Human beings have clear purpose on the earth that they can’t live a successive and happier life without loving the humans and the things around them.

Allah said: The believers are only brothers so reconcile between your brothers, and fear Allah that you may receive mercy. (Surat al-Hujurat)

The messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him said: None of you has faith until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself.

Ali ibn Abi Talib, may Allah be pleased with him said: verily, the believers are people good will and love for each other, even if their lands and countries are far apart.

Religious love is blind, selfless in that it doesn’t expect any repayment in the world, but rather only reward from Allah in the Hereafter. Human or natural love on the other hand, usually is conditional upon receiving something in return. Furthermore, religious love is not a feeling in itself. It is an intention to do good to others and benefit them in this life and in Hereafter. Every Muslim should have this general intention to benefit other people regardless of their faith, even if they are enemies. Love and peace are interconnected in this life. Loving people for the sake of Allah leads to periods of peace and prosperity, in addition to the Hereafter, while hating people and desiring to harm them leads to strife and suffering.

The famous poet Rumi said that, “a life without love is of no account. Don’t ask yourself what kind of love you should seek, spiritual or material, divine or mundane, Eastern or western. Divisions only lead to more divisions. Love has no labels, no definitions. It is what it is, pure and simple. Love is the water of life. And a lover is a soul of fire! The universe turns differently when fire loves water.” From these lines we can imagine how the love plays an important role in our lives. On another occasion Rumi told us that, “love is the house of God and you are living in that house.” In our living world everyone is trying to show to the world that the religion which he follows is the superior one. In fact they want to get dominancy upon each other’s which leads them to destruction of human values. Being religious extremist they forget the rules of their own religion.

However, the great non-Muslim preachers and their stance on love is not much different than Islamic point of view. Following are some great poets, philosophers and writers and their point of view on love. The ancient Greek philosopher Socrates said: “one word frees us of all the weight and pain in life, and that word is love.” Plato said: “Love is the joy of the good, the wonder of the wise, the amazement of Gods. The great dramatist Shakespeare said: “Love all, trust a few, do wrong to none.” The famous mystical poet William Blake said: “Eternity is in love with the production of time.” The Bible also teaches that as we live in peace with each other, we can feel Gods love. In fact, loving others helps us to understand Gods love for us. As we love and severe others, we will feel the love we are seeking from God.

Every religion tells us about love. For showing love we don’t need to be a rich person, even a poor person can show greater love by helping someone. We all want to live by each other’s happiness, not by each other’s misery. We don’t want to hate and despise one another. We want love because love is the religion of Allah. Love is blind yet it is brighter than sun.
